WHERE ARE OUR HISTORY BOOKS?There were NO AFROFILIPINO history books when I was growing up. Now that I am writing my own book, I wanted it to reflect our beauty and our pain. This is more than history - it is KASAYSAYAN. Growing up AfroFilipina was like living inside of a volcano! Bisayan divinity ᜎᜎᜑᜓᜈ᜔ Lahahon, goddess of the harvest was born, not of the volcano, but she found home in the volcano. Like Lalahon, I don’t rule in this tumoltuous world of lava and fire, but I have found home in the chaos. AfroFilipinos have treaded through the coal and steam to contribute so much to history, spanning across generations. Unfortunately, our contributions have not been given the recognition they deserve. This is why I have taken it upon myself to create the FIRST AfroFilipino History book EVER. Through poetry, art, personal narratives, and historical clippings, AfroFilipina History & Culture provides insight into the rich history and culture of the Black Filipino Diaspora including in the Indigenous Black people of the Philippines.
